Weekend Drama

But not us! Zach (my brother in law) announced his engagement Saturday at his going away to the Air Force party thrown by the family. It did not go over all that well, but seriously. She cheated on him 3-5 weeks ago and they JUST got back together 2 weeks before getting engaged. They say they will wait 3 years which will put sarah out of school, but that sounds familiar to us and we only lasted 2 years. Anyways, best of luck with the long distance and the family will not make it easy. Thankfully this even more takes the focus off us and while the limelight had its nice moments I am ready to be in the background again.

My whole bowling team got on the two very good and long-established journals at OSU. Abbie and I will be holding down JDR while The Sleeping Giant and Ye Olde Sniper will be on Main Journal. Makes me happy we did so well, because we are a close knit bowling team. Funny considering we came together kind of randomly!

Got back from Marietta and found the roommates gone and tennis rackets missing...so we decided we wanted to go to the park and play them. Since we got back, we lost to them Wednesday in doubles 0-6 2-6 and then Kelley had a bad singles game against me Friday 2-6 0-6. Anyways, we were looking to redeem ourselves and we really have not beaten them in a set at all since May (kind of embarrassing because we are not much worse than them). Anyways, tonight we played and beat them 6-4 7-6 (7-3 tiebreak). Man it felt good to play competitively against them, especially since we would like to play each other at least once a week when we move out of this apartment next month.

Well dinner is done, byes!

The Married Man

That's what I am...married. Wow.

The wedding weekend went off without too many hitches. The rehearsal was not too bad, but a little long. Our ceremony was kind of long so it makes sense. At least everyone was on time! I made one little mistake when doing the vows, but I was hoping I'd make it through them on Saturday. The dinner afterwards was nice, despite it being a little uncomfortable with Kelley avoiding my family since my Mom was with them. We had a lot of food and once it got dark all the older kids (us) and the young ones blew through our sparklers. That's the best 9 dollars I have ever spent....ever :-)

I think everyone liked their gifts. We got the bridesmaids necklaces and the maids of honor each got a nice engraved bracelet. The groomsmen got engraved keychains and Tom also got an engraved flask. I'm guessing Kelley's grandparents spent more than my parents gave them to run the party, but that was pretty much expected. The wedding morning we boys got up and met at the golf course after I got Zach and Ahmad up. I had watched the weather and it looked stellar all day (which it turned out to be, so that was good). We get started and my first ball goes right into the lake beside the fairway...so we decide each person gets one mulligan off the tee. We all had not really played much before if at all, so it was a great few hours in the morning. I won if that's what you could call it, Shep and Tom came in about 9-10 back and Zach was a few more back while AK was comic relief all day. I'm not too bad at golf and could get pretty good if I keep playing I think. Good lawyer skill.

We left to get food and get ready at Shep's. AK took forever, and we ended up a little late to the church. No big deal though as we got dressed and were ready for the photographer pretty much when she was ready for the guys to take pictures with Kelley. Then I took pictures with the bridesmaids and groomsmen. Finally after waiting for what seemed like the longest 2 hours of my life...it was time to go. The ceremony went well and Kelley was absolutely gorgeous (as a bride should be). Then after another round of pictures and waiting for the girls to pack up their stuff at the church, we were finally off to the reception. It was fun and they even played songs Kelley hates such as the Hokey Pokey and the Chicken dance! The food was very tasty (meatballs and chicken wings) and the cake was also amazing. We apparently had a bunch left, which means people missed out on some good cake. It was weird to have everyone's eyes on you EVERY SECOND of the day, but nice at the same time. Tom and Sarah gave good toasts and lots of people danced (well some of us "danced.") I was definitely happy to have all my family and new family and many of my friends there (law school table ppl, you rock for coming). The two most eligible bachelors according to what I saw and heard...AK and Pastor Steve. What an interesting two guys, but they could certainly find dates at our wedding if they wanted to. Well enough matchmaking.

The week after the wedding was busy busy busy as I tried to catch up everything on my list and got some stuff done. Thursday came quicker than expected and it was time to pack for the honeymoon and leave. We spent Thursday night at Thomas and Lisa's, our friends who used to go to OU with Kelley. Besides Tom and Heather, probably my favorite couple friend we have. We were up late talking and showing them pictures from the reception disposable cameras. Hopefully we can make it up to Cleveland or they can make it down to Cbus often in the next 2 years. After a very short night on their futon, we woke up bright and early before sunrise to go to Akron-Canton airport. A short hop to NYC LaGuardia and a shuttle ride to the pier and then some waiting...finally we made it on the boat, the Carnival Legend. Yay honeymoon!

The honeymoon was great. Kelley has all the pictures on her camera or else I would post some here. The trip down was very overcast and stormy, but once we got to San Juan the weather got better. The Bacardi factory in San Juan was a good tour and I recommend it to anyone going to Puerto Rico. It was also fun to learn all about the future 51st state and see the government buildings. We also tracked down the Hard Rock Cafe and got another bear for the collection. Lots of souvenirs later, we went back to the boat and watched as we left port under a starry sky and bright moon. St. Thomas was our second port and we went to Magan's Bay beach, one of the top 10 beaches in the world. It took a taxi ride over the mountain (great views) to get there, but it definitely lived up to the reputation. It was the only beach we went to in the three ports and I do not know if I will find a better beach anywhere. We went back to town after swimming for 3 hours and rode the skyride to Paradise Point up on the mountain. A good ride even though it kind of creeped Kelley out. The views were amazing and we stayed up at the Point shopping and getting good drinks in souvenir cups. Back to the ship and more good food and good shows and good gambling. Our third port Tortola was very unexciting and expensive to shop at, so we went back to the ship early and hit the pools. The food on the cruise was very good, except for the chicken which they couldn;t seem to get right. Other than waiting too long for our bags to be delivered on the first night, there was no complaints about the housekeeping and waiters. Much better than royal Caribbean in my opinion. The casino was bigger, the pools and hot tubs seemed about the same, and this boat had a waterslide! Did not fare too badly at gambling despite losing money. Kelley was up $15-20 at slots, down $30 in blackjack, and down $25 at roulette. I ended up down $30 at slots, up $25 at blackjack, and down $45 at roulette. I could not catch a break from the slot machines or the roulette wheel, so I spent most of my time at blackjack or watching Kelley play cheap slots. Overall it was a good length of cruise for a honeymoon and I think Kelley finally relaxed a little bit! Nice to see that after 6 months of nothing but stress over school, the church job, and mostly the wedding. The last day sucked as we got off the boat early, had to pay $80 for a taxi across town (the shuttle ride on the way to the port was $30), then got to the airport where they said we could not check our bags until 3 PM. It was 11 AM ad our flight would not leave until 7 PM. So instead of going on the subway and seeing NYC, we got to stay in little crappy LaGuardia playing cards with each other all day. 8 hours of Palabra, Euchre, Texas Hold Em, and Blackjack. Then the flight as delayed an hour. Then we finally get on the plane and get to Akron and finally get on the road for Marietta.

Got back and had another short night of sleep before church on Sunday. The sermon was replaced at both services by a 20 minute video presentation from the high schoolers who just spent the last week in San Antonio at the big Lutheran youth gathering that happens only once every 3 years. Looked like fun. Took an afternoon nap while Kelley showed the grandparents honeymoon pictures and then we packed up stuff again. Filled the car with the remainder of the wedding gifts and bridal shower gifts, and on our way. It felt all kinds of good to get home to the apartment. But not for long, as my roommates ran both bathrooms out of TP! So I had to make an emergency run lol. They bought some this morning since I found a new 4 pack in the downstairs bathroom, but we took care of it anyways.

So now we are back. I am back to working for Shipman slowly, and law school matters are impending as well as our move in a few weeks. Trying to get boxes organized this week to make room for more of Kelley's stuff from home and the room is a disaster zone after throwing stuff around packing for the honeymoon. Got onto 3 of 5 journals as well, missing Business Journal and Main Journal. I/S is too new for my tastes and Criminal Law is not really my field (but I would LOVE to work with our great professors in that field), so I chose our second most prestigous journal, Journal of Dispute Resolution. Got the resume updated for OCI right before the deadline so that companies will give me interviews hopefully. Now it's back to trying to get Sallie Mae to give me money and getting ready for school and job interviews which begin the year. Back to the grind.

PS - It's good to be married. It's not much different with me and Kelley, but living together now is better than her living in Marietta or Athens.

Update

Been a pretty easy week, as evidenced by yesterday. Started by working a little for Shipman and thinking up topics for the poor 1L's to write on. Then called Mom and had our necessary chat. Got the apology for hanging up on me, but lots of other stuff talked about. Not too much to bitch about, and she will back off the talking business pretty much forever since it is clear if it ever happens it will be on Kelley's terms. Then went to lunch with Everson and he asked if I minded going to a few stores...I had not been to Half Price Books and our other haunts in a while so we went. He definitely dropped quite a bit and ended up with a new PS2, 3 controllers, and 20 games. I bet I have 18-20 games for my Xbox and I've had that forever it seems. But most of the games he got are proven winners. Went back to his place and tried out some new games I had not played yet and chilled. Then went to Panini's to meet AK and figure out the weekend plans. Of course I ended up eating dinner there and hanging out with his friends most of the evening. Called Kelley...she cannot wait for me to come down. Hell next time I write we will be married.

Got news from Chicago Patent Law Interview Program in August. I got ten interviews out of the 35 firms I signed up for. Amazing! I'll be so busy those two days, but that's a good thing. Probably should have tried to pass the patent bar over this summer, but I doubt I'll regret it later if I get a job in patent law next summer as I suspect I will.

Going out again tonight in Marietta. What thrills!

Last Weekend: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Not to steal a title from my fellow blogger Villa, but it certainly fits my weekend.

THE GOOD
Shep came up Friday night as planned right after I got laundry done. We ended up eating some Taco Bell fourth meal and playing a World Cup. I had Iran and lost to England in the quarterfinals in overtime after beating USA in the Rd. of 16 in penalty kicks. Tom lost to Sweden in the round of 16, and Shep went on to avenge our losses and win the whole thing.

Saturday Tom and Shep went to pick up the ice, beer, and cigars for the nightcap and cleaned the place up while I relaxed and showered. Zach came up first at 3, followed by Daniel shortly thereafter. Of course Ahmad was late as usual, but Burton came in around the same time and we were off. Hooters was OK, good unhealthy food and good conversation to start the Bachelor Party. We also got to watch Argentina beat Mexico in the World Cup, which had a lot of trash talking in overtime (including continued bashing of America's team, EYEBROWS Reyna and BaLDEY Kasey Keller). Our night continued at Shadowbox Cabaret where we were one of 5 bachelor/bachelorette parties in attendance. The show was Best of 2006 and it was absolutely hellarious. I think everyone enjoyed the evening show and I am certain most of us will be back with girlfriends/wives/hookups in the future. Then it was back to the apartment for some poker, drinking and smoking. Everyone smoked one, and it was quite the atmosphere at the beginning. Poker was well played overall, and I think the first three people out lost on hands they definitely had the better percentage with when they pushed all in. Villa was the first out and he is the only player at the table I think is better than me, so his AA losing to KK of Daniel (who is the biggest lucksack still...go away beginner's luck) actually helped out. It took quite a while but eventually I knocked out Ahmad and fought with Daniel to get the chip lead. We got down to Tom, Shep, Daniel, and I and despite Shep and Tom being short stacks...they attacked Daniel and got him out. Then Shep was majorly short stacked and it took forever, but Tom and I eventually got him out and split the pot. I cannot say there were any amazing plays on my part, but I definitely had Daniel and Shep read on most hands. I'd like to thank Tom and the guys for an absolutely amazing night none of us will forget for a long time.

THE BAD
Well I guess it had to go sour right? The trip to Marietta was a quick one as I hit the road at 12:45 and had to get gas and lunch on the way. I got to Bonnie's at 2:58 and they were waiting to leave for the bridal shower. We got there a few minutes late and got going. Played a couple of games (21 things you might know about the bride and groom) and (make something related to the wedding out of a piece of toliet paper). We ate some food and were going to play one more short game but Granny Bonnie was making faces this whole time and bitched up a storm about people having to leave and we should do gifts. Whatever...so we did gifts. Kelley (and I) got a lot of nice stuff, mostly kitchen stuff such as bar equipment, towels, and a smoothie maker. It was not so bad I guess, but I was th eonly guy in a room full of women (appx 25) and Bonnie kind of ruined the mood by being bitchy the whole time since things did not go as she wanted them to. This is not her wedding.

THE UGLY
Well here we go. So after the bridal shower I go over to Mom's to get a haircut and we have a talk before we go over there. Mom is ABSOLUTELY INSISTING that I bring Kelley over and we talk out the stuff between the two of them that night, including the letter and everything leading up to it (this started in November and ended with the letter in March). I told her I would try my best and got the haircut and left. Dropped off Jon's last stuff at his Mom's as well and good riddance lol. Hopefully he pays me someday soon. I was still kind of ticked off that Mom wanted me to try and force Kelley to talk again...but I figured I would try. Kelley and Kelsey and Bonnie knew someting was up and I spilled before Kelley and I left to see a dog her mom and stepdad had over for the weekend. Kelley strongly refused and we got into a mini-fight over it on the way over to her Mom's. We get to her Mom's and it doesn;t take long for them to realize something is up, but we tell them what it is and move on. We watched King Kong with them and I had not seenit so I enjoyed it. The big dog they were sitting for the weekend was so cute, but too big for our apartment. About 10:30 and 2/3 of the way through the movie my Mom calls their house phone and Bruce hands it to me. This is how the convo goes:
Mom: Why do you not answer your phone when I call (second time she bitched me out for this today)?
Me: Ummm, let me pull out my phone, oh yeah just like I told you before I ge tno bars in half of Marietta!
Mom: Are you guys coming over?
Me after asking Kelley: No we are not coming over.
Mom: Why not?
Me: Because Kelley is not ready to talk.
Mom: That sounds like bullshit.
Me: Well what do you want me to do? You want to talk to her now?
Mom: No (hangs up)
Me: Well Fuck off then (using my better judgment and not throwing Bruce and Kathy's phone across the room).

I was pissy the rest of the movie, and mostly because I DESPISE people hanging up on me rudely. I just refuse to tolerate that bullshit.

So we leave after the movie and we get out to the end of their road and Mom is just pulling on the road. I was so angry I got out of the truck and stormed over to her car window and bitched her out in the middle of the street. I told her it was so rude and you should never hang up on me (with plenty of expletives deleted) and Mom yelled across the road to Kelley who stayed silent and looked ahead in the passenger isde of the truck. Mom accused her of not wanting to work things out and after about a minute I told Mom she could follow us if she wished but I was not talking out there anymore. I sped off and called my grandmother who couldn't console me at all and Kelley took the phone over and talked to her a little bit (which I think helped, but I was sobbing and speeding back to her grandparents). I got to the grandparents, Kelley said she did not want to go there yet, I left the keys in the truck and told her to go wherever she wants but I'm going wherever the hell I feel like and I ran inside right past her grandparents and Kelsey down to my room for the night where I cried and got angrier for 15 minutes alone. I do no know what made me more upset, the fact that my Mom does not understand that I have tried my best to get Kelley to talk for months (and caused many fights in the process), the fact that she stalked us to her grandparents (before we saw her on the road) and then to her mother's, or the fact that I was so consumed with rage I had a white treash screaming match in the middle of the road at night. Probably all of the above. Finally Kelley's grandparents and Kelley came down and tried to console me, which happened after another 15-20 minutes. I haven't cried so much all year I think. After I got back to good they left me and Kelley alone to talk about things and we got on the same page, since it was not us fighting (and we are sure of walking down the aisle and just want it to come...we are fine which is good because if we weren't and all this family stuff was happening...). I finally went upstairs and got some late dinner and watched a litle TV and read a little bit before hitting the sack. Just being with Kelley helped.

Apparently Kelley's grandparents, me in a rage fit in the middle of the road, and Kelley's Mom all told my Mom to back off and let us get married, since nothing good can come from forcing the conversation when both sides are not ready to talk. Kelley's Mom is the only person my mom seems to listen to now so hopefully all of us combined will shut her up. Nonetheless in the long term KElley and I need to have serious talks with her grandparents regarding their unacceptable behavior pertaining to the wedding and my mom on her relationship with Kelley (but we are not going to have these talks till we mov einto our new apartment in August at the earliest). Kelley's Mom told me that my Mom was afraid I wouldn't talk to her anymore since she hung up on me...and she probably deserves that. I intend to talk to her on the phone Wednesday telling her two things: the long term timeline of when we might get together to talk ON OUR TERMS and insisting she comes to the wedding and enjoys what should be a happy day for her.

It scares me that I saw an unpleasant conversation between Kelley's grandmother and my Mom at the end of the bridal shower and I got completely different stories of the conversation from both of them. I cannot trust either of them to give me the full story and that bothers me. It also bothers me that my mom would go so far as to stalk us at night trying to force the issues with Kelley. That is PSYCHOTIC and actually pulled Kelley farther away (as well as gave me something to be really upset at her about). I did a lot better today just chilling with Kelley, and our meeting with Pastor Steve to set up final wedding details turned into a talk about the family issues from Sunday. It helps to talk to him since he is impartial, and I intend to talk to Tom tonight about it and I know Sarah (maid of honor) was going over to talk to Kelley tonight. Back in Columbus now and good riddance to Marietta. I go home for a day and a half and my weekend goes from one of the best of my life to one of the worst.

There you have it...4 days and counting to the wedding and here we go.

World Cup Craziness

I've been so into the World Cup, and I've been cheering for Germany and USA. Germany is 3-0, won their group, and gets a game against sweden in the round of 16 I have to think they will win pretty easily. The US, not so much. Admittedly I think there is NO DOUBT that America was in the group of death (Argentina, Holland, Ivory Coast, and Serbia was supposedly better than Italy, Ghana, Czech and USA: I do not buy it at all after the games are done). Still the effort overall is disappointing and must improve in 4 years if the US is to be respected worldwide.

I post mainly to show you how crazy I got today. I woke up early and instead of going to a bar or to Columbus Crew stadium which is right down the street from me and was apparently having a viewing party (they showed them multiple times during the game...and here's Washington DC in a bar, and here's Times Square, and here's Columbus Crew Stadium!), I decide to bring my TV upstairs and watch both games at the same time from the comfort of home! Yay! I have picture proof.

Beginning of the Game: Hopes are high!

24th Minute: Italy and Czech still playing strong and scoreless, US hopes dashed by mistake and injury to our captain Claudio Reyna (the guy on the ground on the big screen). Bonus picture 2 seconds later of Bruce Arena with his 2006 World Cup face (AKA pissy and disappointed)

27th Minute: Italy and USA get corner kicks almost simultaneously. The US chokes, but Italy converts and all of a sudden spirits are raised for me again. Given Italy's great defense, I assume now the US is in control of their own destiny.

44th Minute: THE US SCORES! GOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Flags waving in Germany, and Columbus Crew Stadium fans a half mile from my seat at home going crazy on national TV. Now Spirits are VERY HIGH...could we actually make it out of the group?

Stoppage Time First Half: More good news as the Czech's get a red card and will be even more unliekly to come back against Italy for even a draw, so the US only needs another goal to win and move on. Then a terrible call against Oneywu since apparently big guys aren't allowed to try for the ball anywhere near the Ghana striker...what bullshit. Ghana drains the penalty kick in the back of the net and the US is in trouble.

Second Half: Here's my only photo, showing Ghana's 2-1 lead in the middle of the half.

This last photo above was right after the US had another great header off the goal post. Just like Reyna's miss off the bar to tie the game against Czech Republic and another miss off the crossbar agaisnt Italy to win the game (as well as Beazley's go-ahead goal against Italy getting called back due to bad positioning by McBride)...4 opportunities off the post in 3 games. Unacceptable. You have to squeak some of those in and each one was critical. Agaisnt the Czechs the game atmosphere would've changed at 1-1, against Italy it would have won the game, and against Ghana 2-2 with 30 minutes left who knows what happens?

So no more USA in the World Cup. Oh well, still lots of good soccer worth watching.

What's more crazy, me dragging my TV upstairs to watch both games at the same time or me taking pictures of it to show you all how crazy I am? I'll call it a push bet, but maybe you could get 6:5 odds.

Grades Are IN!

Had a nice lunch with Mom today, she was in town buying a lavender dress for the wedding. Decided to blow some more time and show her where my new apartment is, before coming back to Moritz. Funny coincidence as I pulled up since Shipman was walking by and my mom wanted to meet him. Now she knows the infamy. I am basicaly on independent study from him for the next week and a half as he wraps up his summer BA class. Yawn. Filling hours.

Oh and grades came out today as expected last week. Con Law was a high B and I tied for the highest grade in Legal Writing, so I MADE JOURNAL....woot. Well at least JDR, and if I get on main journal by the competition so be it (I'm grading around 20-25 percentile approxiamtely so I will not be grading on for sure). I'm actually really happy about my Con Law grade since it was above average and I blew off that class to high heaven. So much so that I went out and bought a supplement before the test to study with, and I think that was desperate. Of course with his exam I think he could've thrown them down the steps to determine grades since we were up all night finishing that beast of a one day take-home. Contracts was awful but since Crandall quit on us and screwed us over on the final I don't really care. A good semester, and now I'm officially a 2L.

My schedule for next year for reference:
FALL
Appellate Advocacy with Beazley - R 9-9:50
Accounting For Lawyers with Shipman - MTW at 2-2:50
Federal Income Taxation with Samansky - MTWR at 3-3:50
Patent Law with Mesher - MW at 4-5:15
Copyright Law with Lee - TR at 4-5:15
WINTER
Business Associations with Cole - MTWR at 10-10:50
Civil Procedure II with Greenbaum - MTW at 11-11:50 (waitlist, but he said I'd probably get in)
Evidence with Simmons - MTWR at 1-1:50
Trademark Law with Lee - TR at 4-5:15
Seminar on State Constitutional Law with Judge Sutton T 5:30-7:30

If I do not get into Civ Pro II, I will hopefully get into Greenbaum's Professional Responsibility course at 2-2:50 MTW. Either works fine and I'm on the waitlist for both, so we'll see which hole in my schedule gets plugged.

Up some more on poker, well above my $450 buy-in total and pretty stable now. So hopefully I keep going up...never hurts to make a little money. The Magic cards haven't been touched all week...better get on those or else I will not be able to Ebay the recent ones before the honeymoon.

Best news of the day: no anxiously awaiting at the mailbox to see if I made a journal. God bless legal writing (at least today).

One More Thing

Oh I wrote another article for southerncollegesports.com this week, and I really crapped it out since it was 3 days behind schedule and I only had an hour to write really. So I crapped out a list of the top 10 stadiums and current college football coaches. I left out Bob Stoops of Oklahoma and Mack Brown of Texas...and I've never had a comment on my articles from readers (I was beginning to wonder if anyone read them). My lack of time and research made the list a little dicey I will admit, but I have gotten a lot of nasty email from readers about leaving those two out. Now I know what it feels like to have readers. I have to admit...it's nice to know I have a readership, and now maybe I'll win them back with a few more good articles lol. Just funny.

Dominos!

I amwatching TV right now, and ESPN just had an hour of the world championship of dominos. I have never seen so much judging and complaining and bitching over a game of dominoes than I saw in the semifinals. It was really funny to watch and I recommend it if you need a laugh. It came on after soccer if you are curious :-)

Had one last (hopefully) moment of doubt before the wedding brought on by Kelley wanting a different ring. We worked out our problems, so no big deal there and we are full speed ahead again one day later. But we are upgrading the ring, and my bank account screams. Thank God people give us money for getting married, since we need to replenish our safety money at least a little before the end of the year. But trading in the old ring set for the gorgeous new one helped a lot and it is affordable.

Law school grades should be done this week, and we got one mroe today. Now law school grades have been a roller coaster ride so far and I have no idea where it will go next. All of my first semester grades were between 93 and 90...above average and very consistent. I got my highest ever law school grade in Legislation (by a small bit), then dropped my Contracts 5 points to a low B (must have really bombed the final), then today got the second highest grade in Property. What makes it all the more sweet is that property is the closest first year field of study to my desired career (intellectual property) and this class was taught by the infamous Shipman, who I am working for this summer. I really wanted to blast this one out of the park and I did, and I'm probably now getting an amazing recommendation letter from my high-profile (in the world of law) boss. Makes my day. so Constitutional Law which I have no idea about and Legal Writing which I think I have a middle range A in...come on down and join the roller coaster ride.

And then we can stop talking about law school grades till at least August, when employers start demanding them.

Was up $50 in poker yesterday too, 20 on the cash tables and won 38 in a 1 dollar buy in tournament (4th place out of 388 players, best ever finish for me online). Of course details are over on my poker blog.

Thank God for Friday

Of course lots has happened since my post-Memorial Day post, but I'll just hit the highlights of thought since I cannot remember most of it.

Today is Ahmad Khan's 25th Birthday. He's an old fart, but should be some fun tonight. Excellent weekend to stay in town. Of course next weekend I'm in town too, I just have to go home for the bridal shower Sunday afternoon.

The World Cup has me enthralled. I watch lots of soccer every day and actually get excited about group play games not involving the US or Germany (although I am cheering for those teams with the roomie). Germany looks very good, but might be tested by England if they meet early in the playoff rounds. The US was easily the only bad team in their group of 4 after being dismissed 3-0 by Czech Republic. Italy did beat Ghana 2-0, but Ghana played TONS better than the US did. It will be quite a task tomorrow for the Americans to get the necessary win against Italy...but I'll hold out hope until they take the pitch. Even if they lose and get knocked out (after playing against Ghana in a then-meaningless game)...I'm still enthralled by the other teams of the World Cup. Gasp...I might just be a soccer fan too.

Speaking of sports, I'm loving the NBA finals too. I've watched the playoffs which have been very rewarding, but the team I'm cheering for (Miami) has made a series of it and who knows they might just run Dallas off the court again in Game 5. I hope so.

The Reds are still in it in June, and actually led the division before their 5 game losing streak this week. As a true Reds fan...we'll see where they are next week lol.

Ben Rothlisburger deserved worse than he got. I mean I wish the guy no ill will and I cheered for the Steelers after they beat Indy last year, but c'mon. You don't wear a helmet and go face-first into a windshield of a car? That guy better stay lucky...but at least he paid the lip service of saying he will wear a helmet now. The fact that PA revoked the law is just simply absurd. Considering how they drive on I-70 across Ohio (the only cars I cannot keep up with basically), I guess they just don't value laws or safety as much as the restof us. If you've ever driven across that behemoth of a boring state, I guess you would understand.

On June 6 (6/6/06 for those living under a rock), I was walking up the street and I hear from a house porch above me..."yeah we tied the knot today." Given that our original date was 7/7/07, I had thought about how many goths would be rushing to the downtown courts to get married on this "historic" day. My thoughts from many months before were rewarded when I looked up on that porch and it was two of the most gothic people I've ever seen talking to some normal looking sun-touched friends. IT MADE MY WEEK! But then it gets better. The bride says in response to the congratulations,"yeah it's really historic because it only happens like, once every millenium." Well call me too smart, but an 06 actually happens every century...and her friends and groom did not say anything other than.."wow it really is monumental." If the original comment made my day, this follow-up about had me rolling up the street to get away before I could bust out laughing. People are dumb and predictable.

So I was browsing the internet today while working, and I think it would be awesome to be a bartender. Not for life (although I bet it's not a bad career), but just as a side job. Too bad I did not have these thoughts 2 years ago...as I might have been more likely to take the 2 week (or 1 week) course and jump into the scene here in Columbus. I certainly see advertisments asking for bartenders often enough. Even if I did not actually decide to become a bartender, I think it would be a fun class to take since it is cheap and a good life skill. Remember, I intend to have a bar at home in my dream house, which may or may not happen. But it would be nice to be able to have people over for drinks and discussion later on. And bartending skills beyond looking in my drink book I have now would be cool to have.

I think everything for the wedding is set, but I like keeping my distance at this point since it seems like the only thing happening is bickering between families and wedding party members. We should have around 200 at the ceremony and 170-175 at the reception, so that should be enough to actually get people to loosen up and dance a little bit. I hate weddings where nobody mingles, and so does Kelley so we set up our reception as an hors-d'oeurve engagement with seating only for about 100 people (assuming people will want to sit while waiting on us to come over while we do pictures at the church). I haven't really had the butterflies yet, but I figure the longer I wait the harder they will come on. Doesn't much matter, as I doubt anything could scare me away from the altar at this point. We've been through thick and thin...and we're still here.

I saw three Mormons with their white button-down shirts, black pants, and black nametags riding down the sidewalk on bikes today. I have a copy of the book of Mormon since I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, but I haven't been in the mood yet to read it all the way through. They are the most irritating people who accost you as you walk on campus. I blew them off the last time I saw them...but I usually like to mess with them when I have time to talk. What bothered me was that they always travel in packs (and apparently don't believe in cars), they are always guys (why?), and they are riding on bikes down the sidewalk. I think bikers shouldn't get to hold up cars on the highway AND run over people on sidewalks...but this happens every day around here. One or the other. My opinion like the law...they should be on the road. I can deal with them easier there since in a head on collision I win. At least they were all wearing helmets...so perhaps they don't have the same level of faith as Ben Rothlisburger that God will save them if they run into a car or pedestrian.

It felt so good to play tennis last night. I should never let myself lapse, as I am a pretty decent player when in practice (and I'm not even close to where I was in high school). I got the roomie down 4-1 last night before forgetting how to keep my passing shots in the court...dropping two breaks back and losing the set 4-6.

This weekend is the Pro Tour for teams in Charleston SC. I am cheering for the three teams who beat us for qualifications this past season (well not really for the sucky team from Chicago who we would beat 8-9 times out of 10) to make a good showing, and our playtest partners started 4-0 while the other two teams are 3-1 and 2-2. None out of contention, and our playtest buddies are doing very well, seeing the second day of a Pro Tour for sure at this point. I cannot help but be a little bitter though, since they are our playtest friends and we wouldbe playing the same set of decks as them and probably would be 4-0 or 3-1 right now. Maybe next year :-)

In other Magic news, I've put together the cards and decks I am keeping finally and am now sorting through the collection for rares to put up on ebay. What a task, but it's three and a half more plastic storage boxes to use for something else later on lol. I hope this frees up more time for poker and other things I want to do. Ah speaking of, I need to put a new entry on my poker blog for the live game we played. Maybe I'll go do that and stop filling this blog with useless thoughts.

One more: what the hell takes law professors so long to get grades in? A lot of graduating 3L's are complaining because one seminar is holding up their final transcripts, but our class is apparently the unlucky one. All the other sections (2/3 of the 1L class) now have all their grades in. Section 1/2...oh no. We just got our Contracts grade in which the final was 3 months ago today (obviously the last of the 3 sections), we are the only section without Constitutional Law grades and Property grades, and half of our section (since we were split) still has no Legislation grades while the other half doesn't have Legal Writing (all other sections of Legislation and Legal Writing are in). So we all have 2 grades (half of us Legislation and Contracts, the other half hae Legal Writing and Contracts), while the rest of the class has had their grades for over a week now. The registrar said all three of the classes I am waiting on (Legal Writing, Con Law, and Property) have been submitted as raw scores and are either currently being converted to the scale they use to grade us or are awaiting professor and dean approval before they are released. If we don't have all three of those grades by Wednesday...I'm going to throw a fit. Get it together people.

Welcome to Summer

Summer arrived with a bang, as temperatures jumped 20 degrees (and 40 degrees from 10 days ago) to 90-95F. Memorial Day weekend was nice and relaxing, as I spent it all with Kelley and sayed at her G-parents. Her brother graduated high school this weekend...wow 5 years has gone by so fast. I met a couple old friends J and A who I had not talked to in four years...we are all doing the grad school thing, and when it's all done I think both of them will be doctors (like me...well I'm a juris doctor but whatever). Since the last time I wrote, lots of stuff happened. I did well in my first semester of law school, well good enough fro how slacker I've played this year. Second semester was good, classes were not as good but we made it through. I'm going to miss Section 1 and the crazy times, but it's on to 2L classes and IP classes next year. My schedule for next year is probably going to be Patents, Copyrights, Trademarks, Business Associations, Appellate Advocacy (AKA legal writing 2), Civil Procedure II, State Constitutional Law Seminar, Accounting for Lawyers, Evidence, and Federal Income Taxation. Woo-ya! Anyways, I have no Friday classes all year and start at 2 PM every day fall semester...should sync up nicely with Kelley's work schedule of afternoons and evenings teaching piano lessons. Still waiting on 4 out of 5 grades from this semester, but Legislation was a 94 A which is awesome considering that was our small section class (and 5 of the 10 Moritz full-tuition plus scholars out of a total class of 210 are in that class of 35). I want the other grades to come out now so I can move on and forget about it. Journal writing competition sucked...oh you're done with finals, here's a 10 page paper to do in a week with 250 pages of thick reading to do before you even start outlining. Blech. Take home exams are shitty too (although LEgislation was one of the two and I did OK there, but Foley's Constitutional Law test took me 21 of the given 24 hours and was brutal). I'd rather have a typing contest (which disadvantages my hunt a peck method) than a 24 hour screwball. Anyways...
I write this not to reminice on the first year of law school which was tough yet very doable. I write this to explain how bad my day was today. So I have the second of hopefully 4 truckloads of boxes I am moving out of my mother's house since she is getting married in August and moving out of her apartment...this is in my truck with the new bed cover locked down with the side handles, which means you cannot get into the bed unless you open the tailgate and release the handles. This is only the second time I have locked the cover down, and go figure when I get back to Columbus this morning something would go wrong. I go to open the tailgate which opens kind of funny and I break the handle off on one side. I spend the next 30 minutes with needlenose pliers trying with all my might to open the damn door, but to no avail. I have to go turn in my timesheet, so I go to Moritz and have Ebony (the secretary for the PRofessor I am working for, professor Shipman) sign it. She then tells me he cancelled his class and my appointment with him today. He does not cancel on a whim...for instance last weekend (not Memorial Day weekend) he had a heart attack on Friday morning, but was back teaching his summer class on Monday afternoon. So he must be really sick or something...and this I fear because if he goes and has to leave the school for health reasons, that means no summer job anymore (nice cushy 40 hour research job), no TA position next spring semester, and no letter of recommendation if he dies. I mean I might be blowing this out of proportion, but the guy is ancient and I fear for my job security. At least that freed up the afternoon to go to the Ford dealership. I go to get gas and I get there right as they are upping prices around town 30 cents. $2.58 gas was nice while it lasted...back to $2.80-$3.00. I do not understand how they can raise prices 30 cents in a minute...but let's just say I pumped away at 2.58 and when I hung the nozzle up, the rates changed to 2.89. This would be the end of the good news.
So I drop off my last batch of mechanical engineering papers for the year and then go home to unsuccessfully try to open my tailgate again. I decide to throw in the towel, so I get some food and watch a half-hour of GSN while looking up repair shops. I go to one Ford dealership...they say they cannot get me in till tomorrow. Eff that. I go to a second one in town and they have time for me, so I decide to wait. Once they figured out how to open the tailgate (it took some doing), they replaced the handle for a grand total of $165. Add on the transmission service I needed badly and up we go past $250. Yay. But at least my stuff was freed from the truck bed and I can use my truck again. And the new handle works a lot better than the old one ever did (it was no surprise when it broke really). I finished off my day by buying groceries, making spagetti, doing laundry (all the while reading and researching to get money before I lose my job if it happens), washing my truck and cleaning the inside thoroughly (it needed it badly after 2 months and a winter of neglect), changing my windshield wipers for the first time, and fixing my interior light with a new light bulb which works correctly again (it has not worked for the 3 years I've owned the truck...go figure all it needed was a bulb). So my truck is OK for now, although it does need a few things (oil change in 300 miles, coolant flush sometime this summer, long term I need to fix the loose idler gear in the engine making a lot of noise and also would like to fix the broken spring on my driver side back wheel because my truck sits kinda lopsided and looks funny)...some of it will have to wait until after the wedding, as I get repayed for the extra investment I made in the honeymoon (I fronted an extra $800 my family is helping cover, of which I only have $300 from Mom). I am also owed $500 from my beloved but I doubt I'll ever see it again since we are getting married and her lack of funds becomes my lack of funds (besides, it was part of my rainy day funds and that's for both of us), and $500 from Jon which I better see by the end of the year because I'm getting pissed about this year-old debt he has. I'm living directly off whatever job I have this summer, so hopefully the first two paychecks are big since they have to cover bills for June and July, honeymoon fun money, last minute wedding details (hotel room, bridal gift, and groomsmen gifts which all told comes to a lot of money), and anything else I do over the next 2 months. Good thing I'm skipping Origins as I really could not afford the long weekend. I'll get a litte cash from selling Magic cards starting hopefully this week or next, but I hope to save that up as my fun money. I'll also get a big refund from the rebates on our cell phones as I finally got to send that in ($360!). I'll make it happen financially.
Oh and one more thing in case my day couldn't get any worse. I come home and my foot (my toe) has been aching worse and worse for the past 3 days since I wore my old black shoes on Sunday. Kelley told me I had an ingrown toenail when I told her it was bleeding tonight, and I did some online research and she was right. I've never had one and I hear these things can get pretty bad. I soaked in hot salt water and applied hydrogen peroxide, follwed by forcing cotton under the toenail edge and covering that with a band-aid. We'll re-do this a few more times over the next couple days to see if I can get this damn thing to grow not into my toe...and hopefully the pain won't get any worse as it already hurts to walk. Nothing but sandals and fresh air for that toe except for in the evenings, when I have it wrapped up to protect it from catching on the sheets. Just another thing to worry about (of course I look it up and minor surgery is apparently somewhat common if these remedies I started tonight do not solve the problem...yikes). I'm so totally never wearing those shoes ever again. Ever. And I will never cut my toenails short again, as this just invites stupid crap like this. Just like Andy Roddick (drop out of the first round today at French open), I doubt I'll be seeing a tennis court anytime soon. This is depressing, especially conisdering I need t lose weight to fit into my tux for the wedding (they can always last minute alteration, but that's embarrassing and while I am confortable with my body...there's no harm in taking my law school 40 off...yeah 40).
Enough for now. Maybe more updates this summer as I have tons more time. Hopefully next time I write I still have a job and a boss and maybe even a toe that doesn't feel as bad (but who knows). Have a good one!

First Entry

Hey I'm moving my blog over here like all the cool people, so if you want to see very old entries of a blog I did not upkeep very well, see Law: Reason Free From Passion at www.opendiary.com/buckeyetennisacer

Anyways, I'm going to try and get this all formatted pretty and then I'll blog every once in a while.

Here we are...summer

Job and Grades

Actually got a phone interview from a big firm in Cincy today after sending out 26 cover letters and resumes. I think it went well and hopefully I'll be one of the 5-6 people they bring to Cincy to interview in person. Of course they want my grades before they make the decision...which brings me to my second point. Grades come out Friday night or Saturday morning. I have never feared a report card like this one...I just have no idea what to expect. I'm sure I will write an entry or Kelley will about my reaction to these grades. They don't define my happiness or knowledge, but they sure do help in getting a job!
Hope everyone's life is going well. More time to update later? Hellz no. But I'll try.

Happy New Year and All That Jazz

Hey world. Sorry no updates for a while. Between law school, and my other writing interest at southerncollegesports.com, I basically gave up the diary. Well I'm back and I do not have much to say other than happy new year.
You know what sucks? Writing 26 cover letters to 26 law firms who probably will not employ you but you have to play the game just in case. Blech. Law school exams stink too, but they are manageable. I just hope I did well enough to be offered law review next year and perhaps even get a high paying job this summer. I need one to pay for my part of the wedding and honeymoon...since my family is being bitchy and like pulling teeth to get money for anything while Kelley's family pays for stuff left and right. We'll make it, just don't know how yet. Things between Kelley and I are great, as far as I can tell but God only knows sometimes. Looking forward to wedding counseling with Steve, but a little apprehensive that the tests will tell us we are stupid for getting married. I know what I want and I want her for the rest of my life but my family (AKA my mother) does not see it. And then she has the nerve to plan a wedding to a guy in March she has only known since October 1. My family is just as effed up as Kelley's for sure.
Gotta go back to law school Monday. After the first semester I can really only say it is going to be a fun challenge. Assuming my grades are not terrible, I think I've got the system down and it makes law school not so tough. It is still tons of information you have to pull up at the drop of a hat come December or May. I doubt I will have as good of professors this time around too, so we'll see if that changes anything.
Lost 10 dollars on my bet that the Bengals wouldn't make the playoffs, but AK felt bad for me and bet me double or nothing on Bengals making Super Bowl. If they beat Pittsburgh in the first round Sunday I'd be amazed. Ohio State had a good football season and are one of 5 teams nationally still undefeated in basketball, so it could be a banner year for the first time in ages. Here's hoping Vince Young does not come back so OSU has the inside track to the football national title next year. Oh and for my poker bloggers out there, I was down $149 in 2005, but have played sharp and recovered $57 in the first week of 2006. Maybe the bad breaks are over and my sharp play can finally pay off online, since it seems like I end up ahead in most sessions since November. Who knows, this will either be a hobby which costs me very little at worst or something which may help pay in some small respect for the honeymoon if I keep a lucky streak.
Christmas was interesting. Let's just say my mom and I had a falling out about weddings and Kelley and mom are still not on a good page. Odd as it sounds, the most comfortable time was 2 hours with Kelley's mom, who used to intimidate me a little. They are so laid back and I love the fact that they always get tools! I got a nice toolbox which I will put to as much use as I did the plastic chest they gave me I keep a lot of clothes in. In fact it is already full! My truck has a back hard cover on it now, and it took a lot of elbow grease and paying for Tom's dinner to get him to help me put it all together and get all the velcro residue off my truck. My truck looks so much better now, and I just installed the lock and shocks as the final two pieces this week when it was warm. Speaking of weather, it has been pleasant except when we went to windy Iowa and I expect hell to freeze over when we go back to class. Finals were rough with 0-10 degree mornings calling for Speedway hot cappachino to make it through. Spring semester has less distractions such as football, so hopefully I can enjoy my last full team Magic season and spend plenty of extra time with the fiancee. If the wedding gets pulled off...we (and by we I mean she) should get an award. Of course she will get a very nice bridal gift which I alreayd picked out...since she reads this that will just kill her.
Well I updated and although I did not detail the law school experience as I said I might...I still enjoy floating around the internet. I just love facebook a lot more while in class as it takes less attention away in case notes need to be taken (and they frequently do since professors can only rant for so long). I hope everybody had a happy holiday season and we'll talk to you soon.
BTW: groomsmen have been picked but not confirmed. Tom is my best man and he is confirmed. Shep, AK, and Zach are my groomsmen but only Zach is confirmed. I will get on that so that Berens and Everson (my backups) can fill in soon if necessary.
We made the round of 8 for law school bowling league. Doubt I brought it up much, but we knocked off the 2 seed in the first round before losing to some 3L assholes. They got theirs in the finals against a 1L team from our section of classes though, so it felt good to see them get revenge for our section. We will be named mens fing rea for the spring semester, and I feel like I've found a whole new set of loves again between poker, bowling, and that sportswriting stint. Good hobbies to keep your mind off law school from time to time. Bye for now.

How Weird Are You?

***You Are 50% Weird***
Normal enough to know that you're weird...But too damn weird to do anything about it!
How Weird Are You?http://www.blogthings.com/howweirdareyouquiz/
HA I'M JUST AS WEIRD AS MY FIANCEE!

There I updated

Kelley and I are good now! Way good...the passion is back and I couldn't be more excited. We moved the date up to July 1 of 2006...only 8 months to wait. She's the loveliest woman in the world and I cannot wait for her to move in with me and start our life and family.
Law school is draining. I love it, but man is it draining. I do not know if I will do well, but time to go study some more for exams!
Sorry I did not keep updating, I just have better things to do usually (which includes facebook!)

Boo Texas

Boo Texas...damn Longhorns. Sad watching Michigan, Iowa, and OSU implode on national television, but OSU at least had more class than Michigan. We just gotta keep our heads up and keep playing well...but we have to finish the job and get touchdowns from time to time or else Tresselball will not make us Big Ten champs. I hope this doesn't drop us out of Rose bowl contention, but we'll see.

I need advice, and exercise

Well another beautiful day ruined at the end...what should I do? But I'm getting ahead of myself. Classes were alittle stressing today and I had no desire to work ahead this afternoon so I went home right after class and played 2 hours of DDR with Tom and then 2 sets of tennis against him 3-6 6-3. Let's just say my legs will hurt tomorrow, but I just had to work off school stress and such and just exercise. I'm such a lard right now...damn near 265 pounds I bet. Absolutely ridiculous and I hope I can DDR or jog or something to build up some more muscle and burn away this extra fat from the last 2 years of undergrad. But anyways, enough about that...
So tonight I call Kelley and we talk for an hour and it all but ruins my whole day (and hers too probably) and we did not even really get into a fight. Well not an organized one anyways. We were talking for 25 minutes about stuff and she brings up the school choir situation and wonders whether or not she will get in. Well Dr. J the guy in charge has never gotten along with her too well and he seems like a real stickler for rules. I understand why you want choir students there practicing all but one day a week, but schedules change and half of Title IX wouldn't be able to come to choir but 2-3 times a week and therefore by his rules would be thrown out of choir and Title IX for this reason. Apparently she tried out today and he said he loved her tone quality and her voice, but wanted to know if she would come back to choir in winter and spring if he did not let her in for fall because of the rules he sets forth about attendance. Kelley said no because she would be out of Title IX all year then which is the only really big reason she is joining choir again this year I think.
So we are talking about this and I explain my view on the subject. Nothing harsh, just explaining that Dr. J sounds like a rules stickler and it worries me that he loves her tone quality but is asking her about coming back for winter if he drops her now. I know rules sticklers in law school and this sounds no different, except that he at least is considerate of what really should be the only thing that matters in making this choir and that is talent. I would rather have someone who comes 3 days a week (because you cannot really pick your schedule in her major, they just kindof have 1 class offering and you take it) than someone less talented who comes 4 days a week. Well she gets all pissy and interprets this as an attack on her, not on Dr. J or what I really meant which was a commentaryon Dr. J and nothing further. She says I am attacking her by saying he has to bend the rules because she is someone special or something. That intention couldn't be farther from the truth and I really think she's just being very defensive about this situation...which leads her to put words in my mouth I don;t say. And as a law student, there is nothing I cannot stand more than someone putting words in my mouth. If I eff up and say something dumb I can accept that, but an obvious misinterpretation of our conversation bothers the hell out of me.
Then we "talked" for 30 more minutes. By talked I mean I brought up 5-8 topics and talked about them trying to get her to talk and she said mabe 25 words total in response. Meanwhile, she is watching a movie and eating and she claims that's why she's quiet. Well we all know why she's quiet and I feel completely stepped on. But what can I do because she insists that she has to do something else (chat online, play pool online, watch a movie, etc) while talking to me or the dead spots of our convos drive her insane. I cannot multitask when I talk to her or else I tend to lose track of what we are talking about. I feel absolutely stomped on tonight for no good reason in my mind. I cannot tell her off about this multitasking or this misinterpretation without sounding selfish and childish. When we fight it is always about what I do or neglect to do to show affection for her...meanwhile I let her get away with stomping all over my heart on nights like tonight and I just sit here and cry and have to vent online just to get to sleep tonight.
I adore Kelley. I just absolutely hate phone relationships, which is what we have when we are in school. If we were talking in a room together most of these problems disappear, so I intend to keep my mouth shut on most of this stuff and just be a man and let it go...hopefully this stuff will work itself out if we move in together next year. I cannot stand days like today when everything goes so well and then something stupid like this ruins it. And if we were talking in person, I don't think there's any way we could've had these mini-arguments and not been better 2-3 minutes later or maybe not have them at all because I can express myself more clearly in person.
Feeling like a terrible human being again tonight...and this from a mere conversation with the person I love more than anyone else in the world. Some days I call her after a rough day and it picks my whole day up, and then there's days like today which do the opposite. And this stuff happens, but fights or arguments like today's are not going to happen as frequently in person I would think.
Speaking of things that irritate me but are not important enough to bring up: when I was in Athens and Marietta last weekend, I had forgotten my ring "engagement ring" which I wear like a wedding band until we replace it on the big day. I missed it all weekend when I left it by my rasor that morning at my C-bus apartment...so I was complaining about leaving it behind. At which point I realize she doesn't have hers on either. And she doesn't put it on the next day either...and I ask her about it and she just says she left it off when she was putting lotion on that morning. I mean that's a minor thing to be irritated about and I know I did not have mine on, but it bothered me that she is just ok with not wearing it. And if she doesn't wear it around me, I worry it happens more when I'm not around. I wear my engagement ring with pride every day and I guess I shouldn't be bothered by all this because I'm making more of it than there really is. I just worry...it's the subtle actions which speak volumes sometimes and I realize that now more than ever.
God, I pray that we can get past the small stuff this year. I'd hate to lose the best woman in the world to shit like this. I better stop writing though or else I will just keep bitching about stuff which probably is not important.
Advice anyone? Man up...or what?

Events of the Week

I got appointed treasurer of the Intellectual Property Law Society...very rare for a 1L to hold office in any organization, so that's awesome. In other news, bowling league started tonight. We have a very interesting team, but a good mix and we will have a lot of fun I'm sure. It feels so good to bowl in a league again, and this one is big. 32 teams of 4 which a solid sixth of the faculty and students at Moritz. Well I bowled well tonight to set average near normal for me, 147-149. I don't like only bowling two games, but 2 > 0. Team got 411-461, so we have a huge handicap starting next week. I'll try to write down how I do on here...should be a blast. No other big news from class and such, but things are going well all the same.
No Sternwheel this weekend, too much partying and such around and during OSU Texas game! I'll miss the fireworks, but I wouldn't miss this game for the world. Fun weekend in store!

Holy Crap

You forget about things...like updating your law blog. Anyways...finally hitting our stride I think. Today was an eventful day. Paid the bills and worked out all problems with that (grr AEP get it together!). I was appointed treasurer of IPLS, the intellectual property law society. Basically in all the law school organizations there are maybe 4-5 1L officers total, so it's awesome to grab one of these rare opportunities especially considering its my field of interest. Threw together a bowling team today too because the league starts tomorrow night at 9. I cannot wait to be a regular bowler again...I'll have to record my scoreson here if I remember them. Daniel, Brodie, and Abbe are my teammates, so an interesting team to say the least. We'll have a bunch of fun I am sure. I got called on for the first time all semester today in Civ Pro, and despite Fairman's best attempts I think I stumbled through it without looking like too much of an idiot :-) In other words, law school going great!
Weekend was ok. OSU smashed Miami and that was cool. Watched the game at Kelley's grandparents house and had a relaxing day there watching football with her dad and her. Went to Athens Sunday and stayed at Kelley's new place until Monday night. You can tell her grandmother decorated, as it is very high class. I love it though, it feels very nice. The freedom of an apartment to yourself is probably pretty cool if you can get past the boredom...so hopefully she will do well this year. I borrowed her new book called The Tough Questions: 100 things to ask yourselves before you say I do. It is very though provoking and will be a great exercise for us relationship-wise when we get together. I wish we could share an apartment this year...I sure hope next year she can be in Columbus as I am so tired of having my loved one so far away.
Texas game Saturday...party all weekend! Woo-ee! And Neil, I hope you are not a Horns fan...cuz if you are, you better get the tissues ready to cry over how bad the Bucks are going to make Vince Young and company look. :-) Have a good week everyone!
